CALENDAR AND CLASSES 2022

This is a great time to make art, make boxes, books, create beautiful papers, and enjoy the zen of paper folding. Plus it is just plain fun to join a group of like minded people for several hours of creative work and play!

 ZOOM CLASSES

Most of my classes are currently Zoom, but hopefully we can transition to in person classes as it becomes safe to do so.  Classes scheduled for Sievers School of Fiber Arts and The Clearing are in person classes. At this time I do not mail materials kits outside of the United States due to mailing costs and time constraints involving customs, as well as other fees.

Zoom Classes:I will send a materials and tools list before the class. The materials kit will have most, if not all, pieces already cut to size and the finest paper i can find. I generally use Japanese Chiogami paper from The Japanese Paper Place, and Lokta, as well as Tojimbo and a variety of other decorative papers from around the world. Many of my classes also have a companion YouTube video available if the scheduled day or time is not convenient or if you need a review.

A Year of Boxes: an offering of 7 box classes sprinkled throughout 2022, building a sequential array of box making skills as the year progresses from January through September.  The Year of the Box is presented by San Diego Book Arts.

Class 1: January 20-21, 2022 - SOLD OUT!

Class 3: March 14, 2022

LOTUS/SQUASH BLOSSOM BOX

The Lotus Box is an unexpected treasure - constructed in a totally different manner than traditional boxes.  Originally a Japanese design, it is in many ways a simple construction. We sill make a 5: Lotus Box, with directions included for making an 8 1/2” model and a tiny 3” version. This was a favorite of French Cartonnage box makes and is sometimes known as the kaleidoscope box.

QUARTET BOX

The Quartet Box consists of four 3” boxes which are connected to create a larger 6 1/2” square box, with each of the smaller boxes opening on a book cloth hinge in a different direction - a geometric delight of color and form!

San Diego Book Arts’ Celebration of The Year of the Box will include 3 additional box classes, culminating in The Magic Box in September.  See their Workshop Schedule for additional details, including registration.
